Action Taxis

Taxi First is a major player in the provision of London taxis for use as action, stunt and prop. vehicles for TV, movie, advertising and promotional videos.

Should you require a single cab, a rank full or a thousand, we can provide them effortlessly. To make life for the production company easier, a single payment is made to Taxi First without having to pay each and every driver individually.

The different styles of taxis available are the Metrocab Mks I, II, and III as well as the new Metrocab TTT as well as the traditional FX4, and the subsequent derivatives, namely FX4S, FX4S PLUS and FX4 Fairway and the next generation, the TX1 and TXII. A fourth style is also available which is the Asquith. This is a retro-built 30's style Low Loader but with all modern running gear. Although not currently licensed in London the Mercedes V220 and Peugeot 7 are also available from Taxi First.

Each vehicle will be provided in mechanically A1 condition, clean throughout and of course road legal.

The cabs can come in any colour requested, with or without external/internal advertising. The liveries can be single door, double door, super-side (i.e. no advertising on the roof) and full livery. All advertising and liveries must have the approval of the Public Carriage Office.

Some film and promotional companies may want to place 'dummy adverts' on vehicles. This can prove to be difficult and in some cases costly as most of the taxis used by Taxi First are provided from our books of owner-drivers. In these instances we suggest using an ex-London Taxi with dummy Carriage Office Plates and meter, on which you can place any advertising required without restriction.

We keep a variety of these vehicles we keep in stock, and it would be difficult to differentiate on camera between a current working model.

It is these older taxis which are also used in stunt/demolition shoots.

For internal filming it is possible for the centre (glass) partition to be removed. This should be requested at the time of booking as this facility is not always possible with certain models.

An important new vehicle, known as the 'film cab', has been added to the fleet. This is a London taxi which has been specially adapted for film work and has a totally removable, internal partition, ceiling to floor. This allows extra room to locate the camera and other equipment in the vehicle, sleeves to insert lighting rigs and anchor points for heavier equipment. On many occasions we receive requests for identical taxis so that one goes on a trailer and the other is filmed on the road. The 'film cab' has been refurbished to match another of our taxis for just such eventualities.

Obviously advanced booking is always recommended (at least 48 hours) but in certain circumstances we can usually supply a taxi up to 15 years old within two hours anywhere within the M25 and Home Counties area. Our record for a specific type of cab is 20 minutes from initial request to working on location after the cab provided from another company had broken down.

Taxi First provides a one stop shop taxi service to your industry. In addition to our contemporary vehicle range, we also offer left hand drive, classic and vintage London Taxis, as well as contemporary and historic New York style Yellow Cabs. 7 days notice may be required in some cases.

With two decades of experience in all types of Taxi work in London, Taxi First is prepared to act as technical advisors for any production, either in an official capacity or just with friendly helpful advice.
